Activities
The RMH Porphyria Centre is a national multidisciplinary service that provides diagnosis and clinical care for all types of Porphyria.
The state Porphyria reference laboratory is based at RMH and includes complete biochemical testing and diagnosis. Clinical services include outpatient clinics with dermatologists, metabolic physicians, biochemists, chemical pathologists, hepatologists, geneticists, haematologists and nurse support. We manage all acute and cutaneous porphyrias, including administration of haem arginate, venesection, phototherapy and have experience with givosiran and afamelanotide. We also participate in multiple clinical trials including DISC and Mitsubishi.
The Centre works in close collaboration with the Australian porphyria patient association.
