Activities
We have over 50 years of experience in all aspects of disorders of porphyrin and heme metabolism, and we continue to see patients and families with all types of porphyria.
Dr. Bonkovsky and his team over many years carried out both basic science and clinical studies in diverse aspects of the porphyrias, especially in AIP, PCT, and EPP. He was the first person to purify heme for human use and to administer it as treatment for the acute hepatic porphyrias.
We also have been involved in all recent clinical trials of givosiran for acute hepatic porphyrias and afamelanotide and dersimelagon for EPP and XLP.
Our team currently includes two physicians, Drs. Bonkovsky and Rudnick, a physician assistant, Mrs. Moore, and 3 clinical research coordinators, Mrs. Faust, Grice, and Patino.
